Why hike further?

Marienbrücke is spectacular, but it is often so crowded you can barely move. By hiking just a short distance further up the mountain, you escape the noise and get a superior angle: you see the full front of the castle with the blue Alpsee lake and Hohenschwangau castle perfectly framed in the background.

Safety Warning

This is a real mountain trail with roots and rocks. It can be slippery after rain. While short, it is steep. Do not attempt this in flip-flops or high heels.

Step by Step

The Route to Silence

1. Cross Marienbrücke

  • Do not stop on the bridge (it is too crowded)
  • Push through to the other side
  • Look for the dirt trail climbing up the mountain

Most people turn back here. You keep going.

2. The Zig-Zag Climb

  • Follow the steep switchbacks
  • Duration: ~10-15 minutes of cardio
  • Terrain: Dirt/Roots (slippery if wet)
  • Keep climbing until the noise fades away

Steep but short.

3. The "Jugend" Viewpoint

  • You will see a small clearing
  • View: Castle front + Alpsee Lake behind it
  • Crowds: 95% less than the bridge

The classic postcard shot.
