The King's Favorite Hike

The Tegelberg area was King Ludwig II's favorite mountain retreat. By taking the Tegelbergbahn cable car up to 1,730m, you skip the grueling uphill climb and start your day with panoramic views of the Alps. The descent takes you through alpine meadows, past jagged peaks, and finally drops you right at the magnificent Marienbrücke bridge above Neuschwanstein Castle.

Alpine Terrain Notice

Even though you are hiking downhill, this is a real alpine trail. You need hiking boots or sturdy sneakers. Sandals are dangerous. Bring water and sun protection as the trail is exposed.
