The Queen Mary's Bridge

Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) spans the Pöllat Gorge at a height of 90 meters. It was built by King Maximilian II for his wife, Queen Mary, and later replaced by the iron structure you see today by King Ludwig II. It is completely free to visit—you do not need a castle ticket to walk onto the bridge.

Winter Warning

The bridge is closed when there is snow or ice on the path (typically November to March). The path becomes a slide and is extremely dangerous. Do not ignore the barriers.

Getting There

3 Ways to Reach the Bridge

By Shuttle Bus (The Easy Way)

  • Departs from: Parking P4 (Alpsee)
  • Cost: ~€3.00 Uphill / ~€3.50 Return
  • Drop-off: "Jugend" point + 5 min steep walk down to bridge
  • Wait times: Can be 30-60 mins in summer

Fastest option if the line isn't too long.

Hiking from P4 (The Scenic Way)

  • Duration: 35-45 minutes uphill
  • Path: Paved but steep road
  • Difficulty: Moderate cardio
  • Bonus: See the Alpsee lake on the way up

Reliable and free. No waiting in lines.

From the Castle Entrance

  • Duration: 10-15 minutes
  • Path: Follow signs for "Marienbrücke"
  • Note: You can do this before or after your castle tour

Combine both sights in one loop.
