Your Journey

Munich Hauptbahnhof

Catch a regional train (RB/RE) towards Buchloe or Füssen. Trains depart approximately every hour from the main hall.

Buchloe StationTransfer

Change here for the Füssen train. Transfer time is usually 5-8 minutes. The connecting train typically waits on the opposite platform.

Füssen Bahnhof

Final stop! From here, take Bus 73 or 78 (~10 min) to Hohenschwangau, or a taxi if you prefer.

🌟 Pro Tip: The Direct RB74

Most guides won't tell you this, but there is a direct train from Munich to Füssen (RB 74) that runs several times a day.

  • No transfers: You stay on the same train the whole way (2h 05m).
  • Better seats: It starts at Munich Hbf, so you can grab a good seat (sit on the right for Alps views).
  • Bayern-Ticket valid? Yes!

Try to catch the departures around 07:52, 08:53 (weekends), or 09:52 to skip the Buchloe stress.

The Buchloe Transfer

Don't stress about this! Buchloe is a small station specifically designed for through-travelers. Here's everything you need to know:

  • Look for Platform 1 for Füssen-bound trains
  • The Füssen train usually waits for connecting passengers
  • Transfer time is 5-8 minutes—tight but doable if you walk briskly
  • If you miss it, the next train is usually within an hour
